About the college

Realising the long felt need of this educationally backward rural area of Alangudi Taluk in the historical Pudukkottai District, The Thanjavur Christian Educational Society, of Thanjavur established a college in Vamban village in the year 1999 with an objective of providing job oriented education to the rural Youth. As per G.O.No.260 dated 26.05.1999 the Tamil Nadu Government accorded permission to start the college in the style to function as “ARPUTHA COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE”. The affiliation was granted by Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli in the same year.

Initially the college started functioning in a rental building at Alangudi and after one year the college moved to its own buildings at Vamban built in a vast and sprawling campus stretching to more than 30 acres on the Pudukkottai Alangudi MainRoad in between Vamban and Koviloor Nal Road.

The vision of the college is “To transform the rural Youth as agents for social change by offering meaningful and value added education blended with good discipline”.

The management has a mission “To serve God and Nation through education”. This is rightly revealed by the motto of the college “PRO DEO ET PATRIA”.

Pudukottai is the agriculture based rural District of Tamilnadu with low literacy rate. This fact induced Fr. Chairman and Correspondent to start this institution. Very. Rev. Fr. Arul Irudayam the founder and Chairman of our institutions has completed 55 years in the priesthood live and served the marginalized section of the society in different ways.

“Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning” Proverbs 9:9.

To make the above proverb alive the college was started in 1999. We have served nearly two decades to the rural population in the field of higher education with God’s grace and we are sure because of this college certain percentage of rural Girls and Boys have become the First Graduates of their family.

Today we speak about inclusive growth but our Fr. way back in 1999 itself thought about this concept of inclusive growth of higher education. Prone growth needs to achieve in the realm of social, political and economical spheres. The real and wholesome inclusive growth can be achieved only through education and by serving the rural population and we are marching towards it.
