The Department of Commerce at Arputha College of Arts and Science was established in the year 2007 with the vision of transforming rural students into capable professionals equipped for the evolving world of commerce, business, and entrepreneurship. Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to nurturing academic excellence, professional competence, ethical values, and leadership qualities among students.

The department provides a dynamic learning environment that bridges theoretical knowledge with practical exposure. Emphasis is given not only to classroom learning but also to real-world understanding through seminars, industrial visits, workshops, commerce forums, business activities, and skill development programmes. Students are encouraged to develop analytical thinking, decision-making abilities, communication skills, and entrepreneurial mindset to meet contemporary business challenges.

The curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Taxation, Auditing, Marketing, Business Law, Entrepreneurship, and Management. The department continuously motivates students to participate in academic competitions, extension activities, and career-oriented training programmes that enhance employability and professional growth.

With committed faculty members the department strives to shape students into socially responsible individuals, competent professionals, ethical entrepreneurs, and future leaders who can contribute meaningfully to society and the business community.
