Department Overview Photograph

The Department of Computer Science at Arputha College of Arts and Science was established in the year 2000 with the objective of bringing technological education within the reach of rural and first-generation learners. Since its inception, the department has remained committed to developing technically skilled, innovative, and socially responsible graduates capable of adapting to the rapidly changing digital era. The Postgraduate Programme in Computer Science was introduced in the year 2006 to provide advanced learning opportunities and deeper specialization in emerging areas of computing. The Undergraduate Programme received Permanent Affiliation from the University in the year 2020.

The Department follows the syllabus prescribed by Bharathidasan University for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. The curriculum is designed to provide strong academic foundations, practical exposure, skill-oriented learning, and updated technological knowledge in accordance with contemporary industry requirements and university regulations.

The department believes that Computer Science education should go beyond theoretical knowledge and create confident learners who can think logically, solve real-world problems, and contribute creatively to society. The department continuously strives to create an academic environment where students are encouraged to explore technology with curiosity, confidence, and ethical responsibility.

The curriculum encompasses Programming Languages, Data Structures, Software Development, Database Management Systems, Computer Networks, Web Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, and Emerging Technologies. Through practical-oriented teaching, laboratory training, mini projects, seminars, workshops, coding events, technical forums, internships, and industrial exposure, students gain hands-on experience that prepares them for modern industry requirements.

The department motivates students to participate actively in technical competitions, research activities, certification courses, and project development programmes to enhance employability and innovation skills. Dedicated faculty members mentor students not only in academics but also in personality development, communication skills, leadership qualities, and professional ethics.

By integrating academic excellence with practical learning and value-based education, the Department of Computer Science continues to produce graduates who are technologically competent, career-oriented, and capable of making meaningful contributions to the IT industry and society.
