The Department of Physics at Arputha College of Arts and Science was established in the year 2004 with the vision of fostering scientific knowledge, analytical thinking, and research aptitude among rural students. Since its inception, the department has been dedicated to providing quality education in Physics and nurturing students to understand the fundamental principles governing nature and the universe. The Undergraduate Programme received Permanent Affiliation from the University in the year 2020.

The department believes that Physics is not merely a subject of theories and equations, but a discipline that develops logical reasoning, scientific curiosity, problem-solving ability, and innovative thinking. The programme is designed to help students explore scientific concepts through both theoretical understanding and practical experimentation.

The curriculum prescribed by Bharathidasan University includes Classical Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, Electronics, Quantum Physics, Nuclear Physics, Solid State Physics, Mathematical Physics, and Computational Methods. Through laboratory experiments, demonstrations, seminars, workshops, field visits, and project-oriented learning, students gain practical exposure and scientific skills essential for academic and professional growth

The department encourages students to participate actively in science exhibitions, academic competitions, research activities, and extension programmes to strengthen their scientific temperament and confidence. Faculty members are committed to guiding students in developing technical knowledge, communication skills, ethical values, and leadership qualities necessary for higher education and career advancement.

With a learner-centered and value-based approach, the Department of Physics strives to produce graduates who are scientifically competent, intellectually curious, environmentally conscious, and socially responsible. The department continues to inspire students to pursue excellence in science, research, teaching, and technology-driven professions.
