Department Overview Photograph

The Department of Microbiology at Arputha College of Arts and Science was established in the year 1999 as one of the founding science departments of the institution. Since its inception, the department has been committed to providing quality education in the field of Microbiology and nurturing scientifically skilled graduates capable of contributing to healthcare, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and industrial development. The Undergraduate Programme received Permanent Affiliation from the University in the year 2020.

The department aims to create scientific awareness and research interest among students by providing a strong foundation in microbiological sciences along with practical laboratory training. The programme emphasizes not only academic learning but also scientific inquiry, ethical responsibility, analytical thinking, and application-oriented knowledge that can address real-world biological and environmental challenges.

The curriculum prescribed by Bharathidasan University includes Microbial Physiology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Food Microbiology, and Microbial Genetics. Through laboratory experiments, field visits, seminars, workshops, and project-based learning, students gain hands-on experience and practical exposure essential for scientific and professional growth.

The department continuously encourages students to participate in science exhibitions, research activities, awareness programmes, and academic competitions to strengthen their scientific temperament and innovative thinking. Faculty members guide students in developing technical competence, laboratory skills, communication abilities, and professional ethics required for higher studies and career advancement.

The Department of Microbiology strives to produce graduates who are scientifically competent, socially responsible, environmentally conscious, and capable of contributing positively to the scientific community and society at large.
