About the Department

The Department of Mathematics at Arputha College of Arts and Science was established in the year 2004 with the introduction of the Undergraduate Programme in Mathematics. With a commitment to promoting logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and scientific temperament among students, the department has steadily grown into a vibrant centre of mathematical learning. The Postgraduate Programme (M.Sc. Mathematics) was introduced in the year 2017 to provide advanced knowledge and deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and their real-world applications. The Undergraduate Programme received Permanent Affiliation from the University in the year 2020.

The department aims to cultivate intellectual curiosity and problem-solving abilities through systematic and learner-centered education. Mathematics is not merely taught as a subject of numbers and formulas, but as a discipline that sharpens the mind, develops reasoning skills, and builds confidence to approach complex challenges with clarity and precision.

The department offers a comprehensive curriculum covering Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Algebra, Analysis, Differential Equations, Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematical Modelling, and Computational Techniques. Emphasis is given to conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and application-oriented learning to help students connect mathematical theories with practical situations.

To enrich academic experience, the department organizes seminars, workshops, quiz programmes, mathematical association activities, guest lectures, and skill development initiatives.
